Correct, your files are never actually sent outside the local network. All the communication happens inside of the network. You could even disconnect the internet cable from your router and the transfer would still work.

I would recommend you to double check that your iPad and computer are connected to the same wifi network as sometimes the iPad may join automatically another nearby network. Also, are you using a home wifi network or a public wifi network?
Also, please make sure that you keep the app running on your device and that you type the address exactly as it appears on the app including the 'http://' and the ':8080' parts.
You could also try resetting your wifi router to make sure that all connections get refreshed. After you reset the wifi router you need to join the network again on your iPhone/iPad and try the transfer process again.

Or, did you modify or edit some of the photos on your selection set? Seems like one of the photos selected has multiple representations on the photo database which may be causing the problem.
We will look into this issue to see if there is anything that we need to fix on our side. If you want to transfer the original version without the modifications then please download it using the full resolution link on the transfer web page. Or, if you want to download them all at once then please append the following to the address provided by the app:
http://:8080/photos.zip
Adding the 'photos.zip' to the end of the address will trigger the download of your selected photos in full res.

Thanks for posting your comment here. I'm sorry about this problem. We introduced this storage bug on the last update and we have corrected our code. We are trying to finish some other enhancements to the app to push an update to correct this problem soon. However, downloading 20 photos should not create the 250 MB storage, did you transfer a video maybe? Also, this problem should only occur if there is a connection interruption, if the transfer succeeds then the files should be cleared up. In any case, I apologize for the problem. We will try to push the update as soon as possible.

I'm sorry you keep having problems. Did you check if the app appeared on the location services menu after the re-install? If it does not then please check that you don't have any restrictions set on your phone: Go to Settings > General > Restrictions
Maybe at some point you enabled restrictions which may be preventing any changes on the 'Location Services' menu.

Apple requires all apps accessing photos on the devices have to have location services enabled because the photos may be geo-tagged. After you re-install the app you should be prompted again to accept location services, please accept that prompt and you will hopefully be able to use the app.

If you can't install the mac app on your computer (because you are running Mac OSX 10.4) then simply go to the web address provided by our app using your computer's web browser (like Safari, Chrome, Firefox, etc). Using the browser you should be able to transfer photos between your mac and your device.
