Photo Transfer App
Hi Joseph,

Thanks for the extra info. I'm sorry we haven't been able to help. Are you sure you transferred those photos/albums with our app? Did you perhaps use the Apple's camera connection kit to put the photos into the iPad?

I can send you technical documentation if you would like but our app is incapable of creating albums that can't be deleted from your device. Apple specifically designed this and does not provide a way for apps to create folders that are not deletable via the 'Photos' app. Also, all the photos saved with our app will be saved to the Camera Roll, there is basically no way we can do otherwise. That is how Apple designed the interfaces for apps to interact with the 'Photos' app. In fact, our app saves photos to the Camera Roll first and then it saves only a reference of the photo to the album if the user designated one. There is no other way to save photos from an app to the 'Photos' app. The fact that the albums appear inside our app only means that it can read those albums but not that they were created by the app. Our app will read all folders inside of the 'Photos' app regardless of wether they were created by the app or not.

It would be useful if you can send us a screenshot of the albums you can't delete. What are their names? When did you transfer those albums/photos? You can send us screenshots if you would like to: support [at] phototransferapp [dot] com.

Let me know if I can help or clarify further.

Hi Joseph,

This is Enrique, one of the developers of the app. If the album was created with our app then it can be deleted by opening the 'Albums' tab inside of the 'Photos' app and then touching the 'Edit' button. If the album is grayed out then it means that it was created when synching your device with your computer via iTunes. Those albums are not created by our app but by iTunes by selecting photos to sync with your computer. The only way to delete those albums is by synching your device again with your computer and deleting the album from the list of selected folders to sync.

The same goes for photos. Photos transferred with our app can be deleted using the 'Photos' app when you go to the 'Camera roll' album. If the photos were synched with iTunes then you will need to use iTunes to delete them.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Enrique

Hello miniatus,

Sorry you've been having issues with the app. This is Enrique, one of the developers of the app. Can you tell me if you changed the default folder of where normally the app backups the files? Normally the app will look at the contents of each album on your device, create a folder with the same name on your computer and then check each photo to see if it already exists on the folder with the same album name. Had you backed up your device successfully before?

Let me know some more info and I will try to help. If you can send screenshots of the list of albums on your device and the list of folders on your computer that would also be helpful: support [at] phototransferapp [dot] com

Hi Peter,

Thanks for sharing your results. Interesting, I'm glad the web browser method work but I'm still worried about the issue with the desktop app. Perhaps it has to do with an older version of Adobe AIR. Do you mind trying to update adobe air to make sure that you have the latest version? You can do that by going to this link:

https://get.adobe.com/air/

If the problem persists, there is something else that would be very useful. The app generates a log with all error messages, you can send that file to us so we can inspect it. The log files are located on your hard drive here:

C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\com.erclab.air.phototransferapp\Local Store\logs\

Thanks for helping us debugging this issue.

Enrique
Hi Peter,

This is Enrique, one of the developers of the app. I'm sorry you are having issues with the app. I've been trying to replicate the issue but haven't been able to see it on several versions of Windows (tried Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8).

Let's try something different. Can you try using the web interface instead of the Windows app to see if the problem is the same? To use the web interface, launch the app on your iPad, touch on 'Receive', then on 'WIndows Computer' and then on 'Use web browser'. You will be given an address to connect to using your web browser. Once you are on the transfer page select 'Upload' and try to transfer the same set of photos. This will give us a clue if the problem is with the desktop application or something to do with the photo set you are selecting.

Let me know once you have a chance to try this.

Hi Mz,

I'm puzzled with this one, it seems that somehow the large video can't be saved after is downloaded from the device. There is no limit on the size of the files so 800 MB should not be a problem. I would be curious to know if the same problem happens when trying to save to a different computer.

Another thing to look at is the log of the application to see if there is any error reflected there. Can you please check under: c:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\com.erclab.air.phototransferapp\Local Store\logs\

You should hopefully find log files there, please send the latest one to our support inbox and we will look if there is anything useful there.

Let me know if you can give it a try to downloading to a different computer just to have another data point. Unfortunately for now there is no way to skip a file during the backup process.

Hi Mz,

This is Enrique, one of the developers of the app, I'm sorry you are having issues with the app. What version of Windows are you using on your PC? I'm not sure what's happening here but it seems like the app is having trouble finishing the save on the PC.

One thing to try is to download that single video using the desktop app (without the backup feature) to see if the app can download that video individually. Another thing to try is to change the backup folder destination to a different place on the hard drive just to check if for some reason the destination path is causing a problem.

You can send us an email to support [at] phototransferapp [dot] com if you keep having problems.

Hi Graham,

This is Enrique, one of the developers of the app. Sorry you've had issues with our app. Amber called my attention on this issue and I wanted to get back to you to hopefully help. I read your conversation with Amber and it seems to me that somehow the router you have is configure to avoid incoming connections to the devices connected to it.

The way the app works is by advertising a service on the network (like a printer) and then searching for devices that are advertising that service. When the desktop app discovers a device that advertises that service it will try to connect to it. However if your router does not allow that connection then the devices will not be able to connect. The devices will be able to ping each other (as you have seen) but no connection over HTTP will be established if the router is blocking it.

If you are familiar with the configuration of the router I would recommend to try enable incoming connections for devices inside of the network. Some routers have a setting for that in the settings, they can also call it something like 'isolate devices on the network'.

One other thing you can try to verify that is a configuration issue with the router is to try to create an ad-hoc network between your computer and your device. For this your computer will become a wifi hotspot and you will connect to it from your iPad. Here are some instructions on how to create an adhoc network using your windows 7 computer:

http://www.logicinmind.com/en/support...

After you have connected your iPad to the adhoc network try the transfer process again. Make sure that your iPad shows a 'wifi' sign (from the adhoc network) before trying to connect with the app.

I hope this helps you!

Best regards,

Enrique
Hi Lin,

Thanks for your comment and sorry for not getting back to you earlier. This is Enrique, one of the developers of the app. Unfortunately Apple does not provide any way for developers to access data via the USB cable, we really wish they added support for USB transfers but currently that is something that Apple keeps for themselves and out of reach for developers. We hope that they will change this on iOS8 or sooner but we will have to wait.

Please let me know if you have other questions or comments.

Kind regards,

Enrique
