Hi Andriy,

Sorry for not responding earlier to you. Yes, we've been investigating this issue to understand in what circumstances it happens as we haven't been able to reproduce in all situations. It seems that it may be related to only certain paths. We are working on it and hopefully we can publish a fix soon. I apologize again for the delay responding to you and thank you for your understanding. I will publish something here once we release an update for this.

Hi Ben,

So sorry for not getting back to you. I've been investigating this and experimenting with some solutions with no success so far unfortunately. Seems like the date is being read from the date the file was written on the original device. If I discover something new I will definitely post it here, I will continue researching this and report back. If you find something that does it or an app you want to try for this please let me know on our support email: support [at] phototransferapp [dot] com and I will be happy to gift it to you.

Hi,

The app should totally work without access to the network. In fact, you can use your laptop in "ad-hoc" mode with your device and it should let you transfer photos between the two without having any internet connection. Are you sure you didn't block any internal network address?

We use Google Analytics to understand the use of our app and we also use Bugsense to report crashes and error messages. We also connect to our server at connect.phototransferapp.com but that is just to link devices if you use the web interface to transfer photos. Other than that there is no internet component to the app.

Let me know if you have any other questions or comments.

Hello,

Thanks for contacting us and for checking out our app for your article. Yes, the app does not work over cable, only over wifi. The "no extra software required" means that you can get the app and you can use any web browser on your computer to transfer photos to/from your device. However, we are now encouraging users to try our desktop apps for Mac and Windows that do provide much more functionality and options than the web browser:

http://phototransferapp.com/desktop/

You can give them a try to see the features of the desktop apps.

Let me know if you have any other question or comment. I will be happy to help!

Cheers,

Hi Damon,

Thanks for contacting us. I'm sorry you are having problems with the app. We are not aware of any problem causing this behavior. Did you try restarting your mac just in case? At what point does the app crash, is it when you connect to your iPHone? And another question, what iPhone do you have, 4, 4S, 5... and what version of iOS are you running? Let me know some of these details so I can help you accordingly.

Kind regards,

Enrique

Hi Andriy,

This is Enrique, one of the developers of the app. Can you tell me if you are backing up to the same location as the first time that you do the backup? The app relies on looking at the same folder to check if the photos exist there or not to back them up so if you change the backup folder then it will download again all photos. Let me know.

Also, does the same happen when you backup another album or just the Photo Stream?

Best regards,

Enrique

Hi Ben,

This is Enrique, one of the developers of the app. Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier. Can you tell me what model of the iPad that you are using?

What may be happening is that if you are transferring to an older iPad the app needs to re-encode the video so it can be played on the iPad. When doing that it may not be preserving the metadata. We are looking at this issue to try to find a fix for this.

Let me know.

Enrique

Hi Jeff,

If you are using the same iTunes account then you don't need to pay again. Simply open the app, touch the little 'gear' button on the main screen (Settings) and touch the 'Restore purchases' button. All plugins will then be restored and you will be able to use them again.

I hope this helps you! Let us know if you have other questions or comments.

Hi Jame,

Just one extra clarification to answer your second question:

Would your Photo Transfer App make a difference so that the Photos App would treat the photos just like they were taken with the iPad's own camera?

YES. Photo Transfer App will save photos to your device as if they were taken with your device. You will be able to delete them manually using the 'Photos' app as with photos you took with the device itself.

I hope this helps you. Please let us know if you have any other question or comment.

Hello,

Thanks for your discussion. Here are some comments. We know that the app is having a problem on devices running iOS 5.0 and 5.0.1 - all other versions of iOS are not affected with this problem. We already fixed the issue but the update will come in a few days until iOS7 is released.

I would encourage you to update to iOS6 (or iOS7 in 1 week when Apple releases it) to continue getting new features. With every iOS update there are a lot of new features and developer APIs that make the apps better and that will not be compatible with earlier versions of iOS. In fact, it is very likely that a lot of developers update their apps soon with iOS7 ONLY versions as it is a major change on UI and a big development effort.

Thanks again for your discussion. I will update this thread once the next version of the app is available on the app store.

Best regards,

Enrique
