Your comments

Hi Ed,

Thanks for posting your comment. Apple released iOS4 for iPad just last month. Before that we didn't have access to the RAW representation of the photo. Now, in the new version of the app you can transfer the RAW files from your iPad to your computer, however, we have a small bug that is causing the images to be named with JPG extension even though they are already in RAW format after the transfer (this only applies to RAW images, not RAW+JPG).

So, you can try transferring the photos and after the transfer you can rename the files to RAW. Compare the sizes of the files. The RAW files should be arount 15MB.

We will push an update to fix the issue with the file names in January. Sorry we haven't been very fast with this but we've been quite busy the past couple of weeks.

Kind regards,

Enrique

Hello,

Thanks for posting your question here. I'm sorry you are having problems with the app.

Strange problem. We haven't had this one before. What is the source of the JPG files that you transferred? Do they come from a digital camera or where they edited on a computer? If you could give us some details of the images that would help us understand the problem. If you could send us an image to our support email that would be even better so we can do some testing here. You could also send us an screenshot of how the image looks on your device (you can take a screenshot by pressing the iPad's home button and power button at the same time).

Couple of recommendations: First, if the images are very high resolution then try reducing the size of the image before transferring to the iPad. Second suggestion would be to delete the current images with the problem and then try transferring just one or two images at a time to see if the problem persists. You can also try transferring a different JPG file (from another source) to see if the problem also happens with a different file.

I hope this helps. Please send us some details about the images that you were trying to transfer so we can investigate what's going on. We will be happy to help getting this issue resolved.

Kind regards,

Enrique

Dear Ann,

Thanks for posting your question here. I'm sorry you are having problems with the app.

Please follow this instructions to solve the 'loading albums' problem:

1. Open the 'Settings' app on your iPhone
2. Go to the 'General' settings
3. Go to 'Location Services'
4. Make sure that the switch is turned ON for 'Transfer' (our application)
5. Close the settings app
6. Run Photo Transfer again and check if the albums load (they may take a few seconds to load)

(The reason why location services should be enabled for our app is because on the new version of the iPhone OS photos are now considered a location service since they have the GPS location of the place where you took the photo. So now when accessing your photos the OS requires our app to have permission to use location services).

Another suggestion is to open the 'Photos' app on your iPhone and then simply close it and go to our application again. Opening the Photos app ensures that the photo catalog is refreshed so our app can read it.

Finally, please make sure that you have the latest update of our application (version 2.1). Go to the app store app on your Iphoneand check that you have the latest update of 'Photo Transfer App'.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you continue having problems. We will be happy to help.

Best regards,

Enrique

Dear Lydia,

Thanks for posting your question here. I'm sorry you are having problems with the app.

Are you trying to transfer from the iPhone's camera roll or from a different album? We have couple of other customers with a similar problem. It looks like this is happening after updating their iPhone's to iOS4. Did you recently updated your iPhone to iOS4?

A good test would be to try to email yourself the same photos that you tried to transfer. The people who have contacted us with a similar problem have reported that they can't email photos from their albums either which means that somehow the data of their Photo Library photos is missing or corrupted (which is totally unrelated to our application) - when they get the email the photos show as empty files.

Let me know if you recently updated to iOS4 and your results when you attempt to email yourself one of the photos that you tried transferring.

I look forward to your results. I will be happy to help.

Enrique

Dear Ricardo,

Thanks for posting your question here. For now, we only allow transfer of photos on JPG, GIF and PNG format. I would recommend you to convert your BMP image to JPG and then to transfer the images to your iPad using our software. Most image editing software programs will allow you to convert from BMP to JPG.

I hope this answers your question. Please let us know if you have any other question or comment. We will be happy to help.

Dear Erin,

Thanks for posting your question here. Unfortunately placing photos in a different albums in the 'Photos' app is currently not possible. Believe me, we would love to be able to fix this, even for our own use. However, with the current version of the iPhone/iPad SDK is not possible.

Apple does not provide an approved way to save photos to a new album or even to create one. We are limited with the access that Apple gives developers to the iPhone photos and it is currently very restricted. Hopefully Apple will add some more API's that will allow to organize photos in the next release of the SDK.

I hope this is an understandable answer. Let us know if you have any other questions or comments. We will be happy to help and hear any feedback.

Best regards,

Enrique

Dear Larry,

Thanks for posting your question here and sorry for taking some time to respond.

For now unfortunately we don't offer the ability to transfer more than 56 photos at one time. However, we do have plans to support bigger batches of photos in an upcoming software update but I can't post the details until 2 or 3 weeks from now.

Regarding the RAW format, we actually do not transfer the photos in RAW format. They are actually in JPG format. Your software is most likely ignoring the file extension and just opening the file correctly because it can read the file format (despite changing it to RAW). We are also working already on supporting RAW transfers and hopefully we will have them ready for version 2.2 which we plan to release in couple of weeks.

Sorry I didn't have a better answer. Please let us know if you have another question or comment. We will be happy to help.

Dear David,

I sent you an email couple of days ago regarding this issue. I'm posting here the answer I sent you for other people to see if they have the same problem.

Normally you should be able to 'right-click' the zip file and then choose the option to 'extract' the contents of the zip file. This should create a new folder called 'Photos' that will contain all your photos in JPG format. Do you get an option to extract when you right-click the zip file? What happens when you simply double click on the zip file, does it create a new folder?

I hope this helps. Please let me know when you have a chance to try the 'right-click' method and let me know if it creates a new folder when you double click the zip file.

Kind regards,

Enrique

Dear Tom,

Thanks for using Photo Transfer App. I'm sorry you are having problems with the app. Is the crash occurring when you scroll really fast on the photos? I would recommend to delete some of the photos to reduce the total number of images stored on the album. It looks like there is a problem with the iPad 'Photos' app that is causing the crash when there are a lot of photos stored on one album. Here are couple of links with some discussions about the problem:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.j...

http://pillowtalk.wendylayne.com/?p=190

In any case, we recommend to have a max of 200 to 300 pictures on the album to avoid this problem. Also, make sure that you update your iPad to the latest Apple software (iOS 4.1) which seems to have resolved this issue. So, maybe first, update your iPad (by connecting it to iTunes via the USB cable) and then see if the problem continues.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any other questions or comments.

Kind regards,

Enrique
