No problem. Like always, thanks for your help!
Hello,

Thanks for posting your question here. When you transfer from iPhone to iPad all the header data (like timestamp, GPS, etc) should be retained on photos and videos. How are you reading the time and date of your photos/videos on your iPad?

One important thing is to transfer the videos and photos from iPhone to iPad using the app on both devices. We have noticed that some people are using safari on the iPad to transfer their photos, in that case the video timestamp may be lost but if you are using our app on your iPhone and your iPad to transfer the videos then the header data should remain intact.

I hope this helps you. Please let me know if you need more help, I will be happy to assist you.

Enrique

Hello gvidid1, rzanerutledge,

I'm sorry for my delayed response, I'm currently in European time zone so I just read your responses. Thanks for your very interesting discussion and insight.

I will definitely work on updating the app description so this becomes more clear, I apologize for this confusion. rzanerutledge, I'm sorry to hear you feel you wasted your money. Please email us at: support [at] phototransferapp [dot] com and we will find a way to compensate you.

The iPhone SDK currently provides 2 frameworks to access the photos and videos stored on your device. The first one is the ALAssetsLibrary which provides access to the photos stored on the 'Photos' app. This framework allows developers to read existing photos and videos as well as write new assets to the 'Photos' app (although in a very limited way). Photo Transfer App uses the ALAssetsLibrary to transfer photos and videos.

The second framework provided by the SDK is the Media Player Framework which "provides facilities for playing movie, music, audio podcast, and audio book files. This framework also gives your application access to the iPod library, letting you find and play audio-based media items synced from iTunes on the desktop. iPod library access is read-only.". Unfortunately the keyword on this paragraph is 'read-only'. So there is no way for developers to add new stuff to the Media library making a 'transfer' impossible.

One more difficulty regarding transferring videos (on top of the Apple's restrictions) is that sometimes those videos may be quite large and transferring them over wifi may take just too long. So, in general if you want to transfer long videos the best option is to use a cable instead of waiting for a long time to transfer over wifi. Furthermore, the 'Photos' app is probably not the best place to save very long videos or movies as it is not optimized for that.

Finally, I think not allowing write access to the Media Library is also part of Apple's strategy to encourage people to download podcasts/movies/music using the iTunes store and not from other channels.

I hope this explanation helps somehow. I apologize again for the confusion, send us an email and we will figure something out so you don't feel like you wasted your money.

Have a great beginning of the week!

Enrique

Hello,

Thanks for posting your question here. Our app CAN definitely transfer videos from iPad to iPad. You need to have the app running on both devices and then use the 'Device' tab to transfer photos and videos selected.

If your video is longer than 5 minutes then please follow these instructions to increase the video duration limit: Open the 'Settings' app on the sending device and go to the settings for our app ('Transfer') . Then change the limit for the setting 'Max video duration' to 900 seconds (15 mins) or whatever you need. Please note however, that it may take quite a while to transfer if the video is very long and that your network may become slow during the transfer.

I hope this answers your question and I really hope our app will satisfy your needs. Please let me know if you have any other question or need more help getting your videos to transfer.

Kind regards,

Enrique

Hello Elizabeth,

Thanks for posting your question here. The procedure to transfer photos from iMac to iPad is basically the same as when transferring from a PC. You need to start the app on your iPad and then go to the address provided inside of the app using your iMac's web browser. You don't need to install anything on your iMac, you only need a web browser like Safari, Firefox or Google Chrome to access the address provided on the app.

Here is a video that shows how this works:

I hope this helps you. Please let us know if you have any other question or comment. We will be happy to help.

Hello,

I'm really sorry you are having problems with your iPhone. I will try to help you as best as I can. Let me start by saying that our app has very limited access to the photos and videos on your device. We use the programming interfaces provided by Apple to read the photos and videos stored on the iPhone but there is absolutely no way that our app can delete photos stored on the device. Apple designed their software in a way that is impossible for third party apps to delete photos from the device, we can only read and add new photos, we can't modify the photo library in any other way.

How did the crash occur? Were you trying to transfer from iPhone to computer? or the other way around? If you were trying to transfer from computer to iPhone, what type of photos were you trying to transfer? Please give me some extra information so I can understand better what could have happened.

Also, what happens now when you open your Photo Library? Have you tried to connect your iPhone to your computer and sync? Have you tried turning off your iPhone completely and turn it back on?

Let me know some extra details and I will try to help you as fast as possible.

Best regards,

Enrique

Hi there! Sorry for not responding to this earlier. In theory there is an NDA between iPhone developers and Apple for Beta software but I think all the new features on iOS5 are already very public :)

What I can say is that there are a some new exciting API's regarding photo management that will hopefully make the app much better and flexible. We are also integrating a few other things to make the app more powerful. I think they are going to release iOS5 in the fall according to the keynote so there is time to integrate and improve the app for the release of the new OS.

Regarding music, I've thought about it but messing with MP3 is always a bit "tricky" because of copyrights so I'm not sure I want to get into that business even if the use case is very necessary and legitimate. Also, with the announcement of iCloud it seems that there will be a much better way to do that natively.

Cheers!

Enrique
Thanks for all your help gvidid1. As I said before, I really appreciate your input on the forum!
Great! I'm glad to hear the app is working again. Let me know if you need more help later on. Have a great day!
