Hi Mark,

Thanks for posting your question here. You can simply go to the 'App Store' on your iPad and download Photo Transfer App again. Don't worry you will not be charged to download the app again. Once you pay for an app you can download it and install it as many times as you want as long as you use the same iTunes account (even though it says 'buy').

Apple will treat the download as an update and you won't be charged again.

I hope this is helpful. Please let us know if you have any further question.

Kind regards,

Enrique

Dear Kay,

Thanks for posting your question here. I'm sorry you are having problems with the app.

What type of photos are you trying to upload? Are they normal JPG files or a different kind? If the photos are in very high resolution I would recommend you to lower the resolution of the photos before trying to upload the images from your computer to your iPhone.

We use the programming interfaces provided by Apple to save the photos to the 'Photos' app and sometimes these interfaces have problems with very high resolution photos. A good test would be to try to upload a small image to see if that works.

I hope this helps. Please let us know your results and if you continue having problems. We will be glad to help.

Kind regards,

Enrique

Hello,

Thanks for posting your question here.

To delete a photo that you transferred to your iPad using our software you need to use the native Photos application on your iPad. When you select a photo on your iPad there will be a delete button on the top right corner that you can use to delete the photo. You can delete photos from the 'Saved photos' album directly on your iPad, however I don't think you can delete the ones in other albums created with iTunes/iPhoto. For those ones you have to connect to your computer and sync your iPad.

Here is the direct explanation from the iPad's user's manual:

http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/i...

From this manual: "You can delete photos from the Saved Photos album, which contains photos you save from email or the web. For photos synced from your computer, you need to delete the photo from the album on your computer, then sync iPad again."

So, in summary, you can delete the photos inside of the 'Saved photos' album but you can't delete from other albums (our app can only save to the 'Saved photos' album).

I hope this is answers your question. Let me know if you have any other questions or comments. I will be happy to help and hear any feedback.

Kind regards,

Enrique

Hello John,

Thanks for posting your question here. We currently do not support transferring photos from non-Apple devices. We may change this in the future but for now you can only transfer photos from an iPhone or from a computer connected to the same wifi network.

One option would be to first transfer your photos from your palm pre to your computer and then use Photo Transfer App to transfer those photos to your iPad.

Sorry we didn't have better news. Let us know if you have any other question.

Kind regards,

Hi Rich,
Thanks for your comments. I'm not 100% sure of what you mean by "moving the files from a folder to the camera roll"? You mean organize photos inside of the 'Photos' app? If that's what you mean currently I don't think the 'Photos' app allows you to organize the photos using your iPhone. That would need to be done on the computer and then after re-organizing you would need to sync your device again.

Are you connecting to the iPhone from an SSH session? Is your iPhone jailbroken? I don't have much experience on connecting over SSH to make changes on the phone so I can't really suggest anything regarding this. I know that photos were stored in '/User/Media/DCIM/100APPLE' at some point but not sure if this has changed.

We use the API's provided by Apple and we are not allowed to touch the photo files directly from an app so that's why I don't know the exact place were to place the files. Also, I believe the 'Photos' app keeps an internal catalog so if you add the files you may need to re-build the catalog so the photos show up on the app.

Hope this helps. We'll let you know when we fix the issue with the EXIF data as soon as 4.1 is released.

Regards,

Enrique

Hi Rich,
Thanks for posting your question here. When transferring photos from iPhone to computer all the metadata is retained, the photo is transfered exactly as it is on the iPhone so all EXIF headers will be preserved.

However, as you noticed, when transferring from computer to iPhone the information is unfortunately lost. The reason for this is that we need to use a programming interface that Apple provides to save photos to the native 'Photos' app. This programming interface only reads the bytes of the image but it discards the header information unfortunately!

This has been a source of frustration for us and for many other developers working with photos on iPhone and iPad :( The good news is that Apple seems to have fixed this issue in the new release of the SDK so hopefully soon we'll be able to have an update with a solution for this problem (when they release the next update to the iPhone OS).

I'm sorry I didn't have a better answer. I will post something here as soon as we have a fix for this with the new OS.

Kind regards,

Hi David,
Thanks for posting your question here. I'm sorry you are having problems with the app. This problem is most likely happening because of the number of photos that you are trying to transfer. Currently Photo Transfer App can safely transfer up to 50 photos on iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 and around 32 photos on iPhone 3G and 1st. generation.

I would recommend to decrease the number of photos that you are trying to to transfer and try the same procedure again. Maybe you can start by selecting between 20 and 30 photos to see if that solves the problem and the transfer completes.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you continue having problems. We'll be happy to help.

Hi Larry,
Unfortunately that is not possible right now. When we save the photos to the iPad they are 'optimized' by the Photos app to be displayed on the iPad's screen and during this process the photos may loose their original resolution if they were taken with a high res. camera.

The good news is that this may be fixed by Apple soon on the upcoming iOS4 for iPad. On iOS4 for iPhone there are some programming interfaces that can help with this problem so we are just hoping that the same interfaces are ported to iPad when the new OS comes out.

I hope this answers your question. Let us know if you have any other question or comment.

Hi Marc,
I'm really sorry it has taken us so long to post the update to fix the issue with the thumbnails. We decided to include many other changes into the app so that's why it took us long to push the update.

The good news is that we sent version 2.0 of Photo Transfer App to Apple yesterday so now we are just waiting for them to approve it which may take from 5 to 8 days. We are excited because this new version includes a better way to connect between devices (using bonjour) and the ability to transfer short videos from iPhone to iPad among other improvements.

I would be happy to send you a pre-release version of the app that you can install on your device. I would only need your device ID to be able to create an app that you can install. Send us an email at: support [at] phototransferapp [dot] com if you want to do this so I can send you further instructions. It would actually help us having someone else external testing the app.

Kind regards,

Enrique
