New routers do block connected devices from seeing each other. This is added security for those that don't know anything about the router, and never configure it properly. Many routers around my work, and home are protected by their default password. This is a big no-no, first thing to do with any new router of any type, is to change the admin password. Some of the newer routers have a configuration wizard, but those can only be helpful if you understand something about routers, if you don't know how to answer the questions, you can easily create problems for yourself. Lot's of older routers, and some new ones, will work right out of the box, with no changes made by the owner. That is the last way you want to operate. Every router needs to be configured, some more than others.
Move on to Dropbox, and forget about the transfer program. I own Transfer and it works for me, but Dropbox is so much easier and useful. It is voted in the top ten apps for your Ipad, and will work on your Droid, PC, Mac, and whatever else you have. If I had your email, I would forward a link to you, it would give me a little more space in my Dropbox, and have no effect on your dropbox. You can invite people via your dropbox, and have your free space increased as well.
You must have something running besides the Transfer app. What's not clear from your complaint, are the details. Which side of the connection stopped working? Did the Ipad close the app? Did your PC disconnect before you were done uploading. Did it stop in the middle of files being uploaded? Did you leave the app open for an extended time? I usually open it, connect, transfer a few pictures, and close it.
I now use Dropbox to accomplish this in a much easier fashion, but I used Tranfer on Ipad 1, and Ipad 2 for a very long time, and neither gave me any trouble.
Apple Itunes will refund you if you ask them, and then remove the app from your purchased records so it will not show up as a puchased app when you search Itunes.
I was getting a bit disgusted with Itunes for all the crappy software I paid .99. for , but once I paid $4.99 for an app, and I had enough, it was garbage. I asked Itunes to refund it, and they did.
On the Ipad, go to settings, then where you see the Wireless settings, in my case I have three networks I connect to, you can tap on the network and see the IP settings. In any case, when you open the Photo Transfer program, it should show you the same IP. I don't rememebr if a port is specified, I have not used it in a few months, I now use Dropbox to do it all. I would love to send you a Dropbox invite, so they will expand my free accoiunt for turning you on to it. Drpbox is a cloud that you install on both your Ipad, and your PC, or as many PC's as you like. Anything thta is in your Dropbox, will be in the same folder on every device that is logged into with your account. You can email me at my name, as show above @gmail. Pu the Dot between Joe and my last name.
The next step to helping you would be to have you use another profile. You cna do that by creating another user account with admin priv, and login with it and try to test your problem from there. if you that works, you will need to create a new profile for yourself as a primary profile.
My Ipads both worked from day one. The Ipad settings, as I recall, did not have a way to block anything. Did you get your Ipad's address from its settings tab? Did the Photo Transfer software bring up the same address? Then try to ping it from your lap top as well as your PC? Can the lap top and PC ping each other? Even if you failed to ping the Ipad, did you attempt to bring up the web page? When you report back, tell us which paths are good, and which are blocked.
There is a security feature that disables ping requests, but it does not stop other communication. Though I doubt that this fact has anythig to do with your probelm.
It's not all that complicated. Try it on another network if you have access to it. Chances are that Windows 7 might be blocking it. If you have a Xp system, give that a try. You need to rule out what is causing the issue, then why., then how to fix it. The most common culpret is the router, then security software on then PC OS. The Photo Transfer app is simple in the way it works, but that is where simplicity stops.
You can start by checking the IP on the Ipad, then try to ping it from the PC. If you can ping it, you are half way there. If you can't, that is the first thing to troubleshoot.
I would be sure there is no security software installed that may be stopping you. In any case, the iPad will produce a page that says Send or Receive, then Apple, Windows, or iPhone/Ipad. Once you select the Windows, as I have, you would get a web page produced by your iPad and the Transfer software.
If you are not getting that far, then I suggest that you use Ipconfig at a DOS prompt and be sure that you are getting and address from the same network as your iPad. Be sure to type the address as you see it. I can't assume that you don't know that the IP address is separated by only a period. My iPad produces this address http://192.168.0.184:8080 The :8080 is the port number on the connection There are no spaces between any of it. If you still have trouble after you verify that you are on the same network, by having a similar IP address for the first three groups of numbers, please reply with the message you get when you try to connect.

Please note that I am just a user of the program, just like you, I am not connected with the producer of the Transfer product in any way.

Check that your firewall is not turned on. There are only a few things that could stop you, and that is top on my list. Go to your control panel, then Windows Firewall. Turn it off. If you don't have a home router for your internet connection, you might want to buy one before you trun the firewall off. The typical home router is not usually a firewall, but it does give you NAT, Network Addess. Some security software can also be your problem, as some have firewall functions, and can block systems connecting to you from outside. The good ones will let you know that somoene is trying to gain access to your PC, and will give you the option to allow it. Good luck. Joe
Get the Ip address of your Mac and replace chynna.local with the Ip address, keeping the the rest the same.
