If you are not getting that far, then I suggest that you use Ipconfig at a DOS prompt and be sure that you are getting and address from the same network as your iPad. Be sure to type the address as you see it. I can't assume that you don't know that the IP address is separated by only a period. My iPad produces this address http://192.168.0.184:8080 The :8080 is the port number on the connection There are no spaces between any of it. If you still have trouble after you verify that you are on the same network, by having a similar IP address for the first three groups of numbers, please reply with the message you get when you try to connect.
Please note that I am just a user of the program, just like you, I am not connected with the producer of the Transfer product in any way.

What brand/model of wifi router do you have? Some wifi routers like the Apple Airport Extreme or some models of the Cisco Valet router can create 2 networks: A main network and a guest network. The guest network prevents all communication between devices which may cause the issue that you are experimenting. So if you have one of these routers just make sure that you are using the main network and not a guest network.
I hope this helps. If you continue having issues please send us some info about your router to our support email and we'll do some research to try to help you out: support [at] phototransferapp [dot] com.

If you'd like additional info, keep posting any questions, or if it helps, let us know.
One thing you may want to check with Cisco Routers is that you are using the main network and not the guest network. Some models of Cisco routers can create 2 separate networks. The guest network prevents communication between devices causing this problem. So, please check that your computer and device are both on the main wifi network.
I hope this helps!

Sorry to hear you are having problems connecting to the address. Thanks for your post. It is possible that the wifi router that you are using at your office location is configured with much higher security settings than the one that you use at home. That's why the app works well at home and not at your office. Are you using a shared office?
Some networks are configured to "isolate" devices for security purposes. This basically prevents devices inside of the same network to communicate with each other. Unfortunately in this case we can't do much as the configuration of the router depends on the network administrator.
In this case, what I could recommend you is to try creating an 'ad-hoc' network. An ad-hoc network is a direct network between your computer and your iPhone/iPad. This allows you to bypass the office router and your photos should transfer with no problems. for instructions on how to create an ad-hoc network with Windows Vista please follow these instructions:
http://getsatisfaction.com/photo_tran...
I hope this makes sense. Please let us know if were able to try the 'ad-hoc' method on your office computer. Our support email is: support[at]phototransferapp[dot]com if you need more specific help.

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://192.168.1.101:8080/
The following error was encountered:
We can not connect to the server you have requested.
This means that:
* The server might be busy at this time.
* The server is not reachable.
Please try later to see if you can go through.
Using IE it cannot connect either. I'm using a CISCO router and ipad WRT160N V2, ipad OS 3.2.2 (7B500) and Vista Business on an HP 6735B laptop.
The funny thing is that I bought this ipad WITH the software installed and was working perfectly. I decided to delete it and buy my own version today and it's NOT WORKING!
Thanks for your post and comment. I'm sorry you are having problems with the app. Let me explain a bit how the app works so you have an idea why sometimes these connection problems occur.
The address provided inside of the application is the internal address of your device on the network. This address is assigned by your wifi router and each device/computer will have one assigned when it connects to the network. The address is only reachable inside of the network -it's a private address- which means that only devices connected to the same network will be able to reach it. That is why is very important to double check they are on the same network.
Now, when you type the address on the web browser what happens is that the browser talks to the router requesting to be connected to the device with the address provided. Normally any home wifi router will establish the connection immediatly and the the app then will respond with the transfer web page. However, some more routers are configured to block any communication between devices on the network for security reasons. This prevents devices to talk to each other which leads to a page not found error.
Also, sometimes when the device has not been active on the network for a while the router may "forget" about it and the connection will fail. A suggestion to avoid this is to open the 'Settings' app on your iPhone/iPad, turn off wifi and then turn it back on to join the network again. This will help making sure that the connection with the router is established.
Another suggestion is to restart the wifi router to make sure that all the connections and addresses get refreshed. Unfortunately some routers get stuck with internal addresses so resetting is something that may help.
If the connection does not get established even after trying these suggestions. Another option is to create an 'ad-hoc' network between your computer and your device. An 'ad-hoc' network is a direct network between your computer and your device. To do this you can refer to this web page on this support forum:
http://getsatisfaction.com/photo_tran...
Follow the instructions on the page above depending the type of computer you are using.
I hope this explains a bit how the app works. Please let us know if you continue having problems and we'll try to find other solutions.
Best regards,
Enrique

I loaded up Network Magic, which I use to monitor my home network, and noticed that even though my iPhone and my PC were connected to the same wireless network, the network itself could not see the iPhone.
So, I recommend trying Enrique's advice about disconnecting and re-connecting to the wireless network. As soon as I did that, I had no problems with Photo Transfer.
Rose
I like this program and I want to see it succeed. I was having grief, but the advice "Also, sometimes when the device has not been active on the network for a while the router may "forget" about it and the connection will fail. A suggestion to avoid this is to open the 'Settings' app on your iPhone/iPad, turn off wifi and then turn it back on to join the network again. This will help making sure that the connection with the router is established." worked for me.
So what is not happening? The process is simple if the computers are all on the same subnet, or Vlan, or Wifi LAN, i.e. network.
I'm sorry you are having problems with the app. Are you using the same wifi network as before when the app worked? From the address that you sent it looks like you may be connected to a larger network. Please note that some public wifi networks block communication between devices inside of the network.
If you are using the same wifi network, then I would recommend to simply reset your wifi router by unplugging it for couple of seconds and plugging it back. Sometimes, routers 'forget' to route correctly to internal addresses making this problem occur. The other option, is to turn off wifi on your device and then turn it back on to join the network again.
Please make sure that you are using the address that is displayed inside of the application and make sure to keep the app open when you attempt to access it from your computer's web browser.
I hope this helps. Let us know when you try these things. If the app was already working for you there has to be something small to make the connection happen again.
Kind regards,
Enrique

I'm sorry you keep having problems. This is strange because the app already worked before. Do you have a wireless router connected to your network by any chance? We have noticed that sometimes a wireless printer can cause connection conflicts.
When you restarted your wifi router, did the app give you the same address as before? or was it a new one?
Another suggestion is to try using a different browser like Google Chrome, Firefox or Safari.
Let me know if you have other devices connected to the network. If the problem persists we can also try creating an 'ad-hoc' network between your computer and your device.
Regards,
Enrique
Also do you have other devices connected to the network like a wireless printer? If you could also post the model and brand of your wifi router that will be useful to research if there is anything that needs to be changed there.
You could also send us an email to support [at] phototransferapp [dot] com if you prefer communicating over email.
Unfortunately I can not get the app to work with my ipad and something weird happened the other day, it connected to iphoto which was really not desirable as i do not store my pictures there. But it disconnected very quickly. I cannot get any connection now.
i have tried turning modem off and on but no joy.
Am using : http://ipad.local:8080/
My ipod touch will connect ok.
I'd be grateful for advice
Kind regards, Jude
I'm sorry you are having problems with the app. I would recommend you to try to use the alternate address that appears on your iPad when you launch our app, the one that says for 'Windows' computers which should also work with mac computers. Sometimes wifi routers have trouble converting the 'Apple' address and in this case the 'windows' address can help establishing the connection.
I hope this helps. Please send us an email to support [at] phototransferapp [dot] com if you continue having problems, we will be happy to continue helping you.

What type of wifi network are you using? Is it a home wifi network or a public network? If you are using a home wifi network then can you tell us what type of router do your have? If you have an Apple or Cisco router please make sure that you are using the main wifi network and not the guest network as those routers have the ability to create 2 kinds of wifi networks and the guest network does not allow devices to talk to each other.

If you are using an Apple airport extreme router make sure that you are using the main network and not the guest network. The airport router allows you to create a guest network that is very restricted in terms of security, thats why is very important to check that you are using the main network and not the guest network.
You can also try the other address that appears inside of our application, the one that says for windows computer which should also work with Mac computers and sometimes is more reliable, but again, make sure that you are using the main network of your airport router.
Hope this helps! Let us know how it goes.

Most users have no problems with the App, and the updates have made it better.
In fact, less than 1% of the total reviews, for ALL versions, are negative.
That suggests it's settings on most people's systems that may need adjusting, and the bad reviews were from people who just didn't want to try, or the competition.
:-)
I've posted some common issues with router or iPad settings to try, that you may not have thought of.
Don't give up, the App does work.!
Thanks a lot for your response. Your suggestion is good, you can definitely use the address marked for 'Windows computers' to connect to the device from a Mac computer. In fact, that address (the one marked for windows) is the actual address of your device on your internal wifi network and is given by the wifi router to each device connected to the network. The address is only accessible from your internal wifi network, that's why is so important to check that the device and the computer are connected to the same network.
Now, the addresses are not swapped. The address listed "For Apple computers" is a 'bonjour' address. Bonjour is a technology developed by Apple that allows to type an address in a more 'friendly' way than a bunch of numbers. When you type the 'Apple' address your computer converts it to the actual number to be able to contact the device. However, sometimes, this conversion seems to fail with some routers or has conflicts with other devices running on the network (such as wireless printers) and this is why sometimes it does not work correctly although that should be rare. Robert, do you have a wireless printer connected to your network? That may be the reason why the address is not working. Let me know.
I hope this makes some sense and helps understanding the difference between the addresses. In summary, the addresses are not swapped but if you are using a Mac computer you can try both addresses listed.
Please don't hesitate to send us any other question or comment you may have. I will be happy to respond to your questions.

Enrique

If you get an error kicking back saying you need to have the latest version of the app then you probably need to update the app. You can easily install the latest version by going to the "App Store" on your iDevice and tapping on "updates". From there our app should show up if you are not running the latest version.
All you have to do is tap 'update' and it should install 3.2 version of our app :) Let us know if neither of the suggestions work, or you are still having problems connecting!
Thanks gvdid1 for providing that information.

Are you using the Mac App on your computer? I think the issue is that you haven't enabled Location Services on your device. Please open the 'Settings' app on your device and then enable location services for our app. Apple requires all apps accessing Photos and Videos to have access to Location Services (unfortunately!). Once you do that you should be able to make the app work.
I hope this helps!

... (there is a planned near-future update, but this one is current)
The statement in the App may just be a reminder text, not a scan of its revision, as something to check if you receive a connection error.
If you can give a little bit more info, maybe I can help sort out the problem.
Do you see any URL address to put into your browser, to connect to your PC?
Or, are you trying to transfer iDevice to iDevice?
Either way, do you see an address to enter?
Also, what router brand / model# do you have?
If you're using a computer, ... and are using a Firewall program on it ...
- do you have privacy active to block input from outside devices?
- are you familiar and comfortable with adjusting settings for it?
- what Firewall are you using?
https://getsatisfaction.com/photo_tra...
In other words, if you're on the same connection of your router as any other device connected to it.
I have read lots on here & tried to work it out but all i keep getting in my browser is"this webpage cannot be displayed" I have a Thompson router...pc is on wifi and iphone as well...both are on the same lan for gods sake:(
I'm sorry you are having issues with the app. We had couple of other people using Thompson routers and they had to restart the router and join the network again from their computer and device to be able to establish communication. Please try restarting your router and see if you can establish communication. I hope that helps!

Someone else posted here they were making a similar mistake, using a period instead of the colon, too, so that's another possibility.
Also, don't forget to put the http:// before the address.
Anyway, just my two cents. :-)
I know it pears that you have done everything, but there is the possibility that something might not be as you think.
One of these steps might lead you to discover that your iPad it not on the same network as your pc, it could be as simple as having 3G turned on and having the pc and iPad on different networks. The ipaddresses should be very similar, but off by one or two digits. If one is 192.168.2.5, th other should be on 192.168.2.x where x equals anything else.
Good luck.. Joe
I'm sorry you are having issues with the app. If you were able to transfer photos before then you should continue to do it, just make sure that you keep the app running on your device and double check that your device and computer are connected to the same wifi network. If you continue having problems please send us the model of your wifi router to our support email and we can try to check if there is anything special that needs to be done: support [at] phototransferapp [dot] com.

I now use Dropbox to accomplish this in a much easier fashion, but I used Tranfer on Ipad 1, and Ipad 2 for a very long time, and neither gave me any trouble.
Apple Itunes will refund you if you ask them, and then remove the app from your purchased records so it will not show up as a puchased app when you search Itunes.
I was getting a bit disgusted with Itunes for all the crappy software I paid .99. for , but once I paid $4.99 for an app, and I had enough, it was garbage. I asked Itunes to refund it, and they did.
I'm sorry you are having problems with the app. Most likely this is due to the configuration of the wifi network you are using. Let us know if you are using a public wifi network or a home wifi network. If you are using a public wifi network then maybe is blocking communication between your devices. Please send us some details of the wifi network that you are using to our support email: support [at] phototransferapp [dot] com and we will try our best to help you.

You can start by checking the IP on the Ipad, then try to ping it from the PC. If you can ping it, you are half way there. If you can't, that is the first thing to troubleshoot.
There is a security feature that disables ping requests, but it does not stop other communication. Though I doubt that this fact has anythig to do with your probelm.
I've been trying to solve this myself and played around with all settings mentioned here. I played around all day to my wits end trying to figure it out.
Then I was tooling around my router and found a setting called Access Point Isolation that was enabled. The word "isolation" caught my attention...could it be that the router was isolating its clients from each other?
I disabled this setting, and voila! Everything started working. I didn't have to mess with colons, semicolons, Windows or Apple receive mode, etc. It just started working.
Turns out many routers do this by default to prevent wifi clients "eavesdropping" on each others connections. It most important for public wifi access points where the people connecting don't know each other.
If you still have this app installed but gave up on it, please try digging in your router settings to see if isolation can be disabled. It might just be the solution to all your headaches.
Thank you for sharing this information with us :) This was most helpful!
Best,
Amber
