Well, I resolved the problem by updating to iOS 8 but I'm a little irritated that I never got another reply on this ticket and also that the app updated and was no longer usable on iOS 7.

The device crashes when I'm trying to connect. In the desktop app, I click Find Devices and then click on my phone's name. After I click the phone name, the app on my phone crashes.

I haven't yet upgraded to iOS 8.2 because  I don't have the space available on my phone at the moment. I can clear some memory if that's a requirement to get Photo Transfer app working again, but I'm hoping I can get the app working first so I can easily transfer my latest photos first.
