The router is a Virgin Media Router (though it is basically a Netgear router configured for Virgin). I have looked at the Security Section of the router that contains areas for: Firewall; IP Filtering; MAC Filtering; Port Blocking; Port Finding; DMZ; Most of this is Firewall stuff. Concerned with what goes through or in via the Firewall. All the connections on the Internal Private network (10.2.5.0/255.255.255.0). Should have no problems the router for the internal network should be just that a router. Can you be a bit more specific about how the IPAD/PC App are advertising the service? When my laptop is asked to find a printer against the IP of the printer on the network it finds the printing service with no problem. So I can't see why the PC App can't see the IPad service. They are both on the same IP network with no Firewall between them. The service carried by the IP should be seen over the 2.4 or 5GHz Wi-Fi or even Ethernet. I really don't want to set my PC up to be a Wi-Fi as an Ad-Hoc network. I have a very good Wi-Fi network on both frequencies. Works well throughout the house. I can transfer photographs already using iTunes etc... But you app looks more user friendly. So would be good to get it going. I have looked on the Virgin Router but can't see anything like you suggest. It may be that Virgin have customized it for their approach. You must have other customers with Virign Super Hub routers?
So I am frustrated that as ex IT network engineer I cannot get the PC and the IPAd to connect!!
My router is a Virgin Media cable router (Netgear I believe customized for Virgin). I have 30Mb cable. I have a good network connection between PC, and IPad over the Wi-Fi. I have put lots of comments above about things I have looked and tried. Ensured Apple Services are running etc... I am not expecting to transfer Music or anything else by Photo Transfer program. But I just cannot get the PC App to see any devices (ie the IPad). Also if I try to get to set a drive using ipad-name.local. it hasn't a clue. How DNS would know this name I have no idea. If I ping the IPad I can see the IP address - so communication is working that the IP layer. I have rebooted the router I have tried lots of times on the PC app to get it to see the IPad with no success. Over to you for ideas/suggestions??
I have now found that I can transfer music via iTunes to my IPad without the need for this App!! But it might make it easier. Pity that Amber hasn't replied to all Web Emails. I have good connection to my PC via Wi-Fi and USB etc... Maybe Amber is on holiday or something. But I am very frustrated at not being able to sort this out!!
I have also tried stopping and restarting the Apple Mobile service on the PC and tried with a USB connection to the Ipad. PC says it has loaded the Apple Drivers. There must be something I am missing!
I have checked that Bonjour and It Tunes helper are running etc... And I did reboot my cable router at the beginning of this frustrating process. Question. How would my PC know what Graham-ipad.local. is? How would the DNS know about the Ipad?? As ex IT/DNS person? I even tried running the PC app as an administrator. I do get some sort of 'handshake' if I set up 10.2.5.10 manually from the PC but there is still no real communication. This is very frustrating. Can I not talk to someone over the phone or use a Web Chat approach?
My router supports 2.4GHz & 5 GHz Wi-Fi. I have connected via the 5GHz. The ipad Graham-ipad has been given an IP address of 10.2.5.10/255.255.255.0 (Router/Gway 10.5.2.1). My PC 10.5.2.5 (static) couldn't ping 10.2.5.10. But after renewing lease on Ipad etc.. I could ping The App on PC still doesn't discover devices. Manually adding Graham-ipad.local. doesn't work! But if I add manually on PC app 10.5.2.10. The Ipad asks ok to allow this connection and I said allow. But the PC app still doesn't see the Ipad. As an ex IT network engineer I am still very confused and frustrated. All I want to do is to transfer my digital photographs stored on my PC to the ipad and put them in the correct folder/director for the inbuilt photo viewer!
I have a satisfactory Wi-Fi network. (Though I did reboot the router). I am running your App in ipad and on my PC at the same time. When I keep hitting Discover devices it always says nothing found. If I use the manual add and add my Ipad name it still doesn't connect. I am a retired ex It network engineer so I should be able to work this out. My private network uses DHCP and the ipad is picking up an address in scope. The PC has a static IP on the network as does my network printer etc... Hope that gives you some information to go on with. Thanks
