Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!! I have a feeling that Apple is a bit overwhelmed right now!

In the meantime I have found that I can send pics to my Mac from my iPhone, move these into iPhoto....and then sync them into my iPad. Not a great solution as it means the pics aren't in full resolution after going thru iPhoto...but it will work for now!
