App crashes after 33 pix uploads

Fred Garvin 13 years ago updated 13 years ago 4
I have an iPhone 4S with iOS 5.01. My Camera roll is/was empty after I got a new replacement iPhone 4S. I am trying to transfer all (about 500 ultimately) pix from my XP machine (that I copied from the old iPhone 4S via Windows Explorer) back to the iPhone.

I successfully transferred 500 at about 90 at a time but realized that they were in the wrong chronological order. So I deleted them all off the iphone and am now trying to do it again starting with the oldest pix first.

Every time it gets to the 33rd pix and the app crashes. The 33rd pix is nothing unusual...just a JPG...and it was on the iPhone earlier tonight when I did the first transfer with your app. When I am attempting the transfer now, I am sorting the files by filename. In the successful transfer earlier tonight, I had sorted them by date.

I have tried powering the iPhone on/off and that does not help. I downloaded this app in January so it's the latest version.

Ideas?

p.s. it would be great to get rid of the 100 per-transfer limit...would be nice to have like 300 or 500.
Dear Fred,

Thanks for posting your question here. I'm sorry you are having issues with the app. This is interesting, can you quickly check if your new iPhone has enough free space? I guess it does since it is new but I just want to double check thats not the issue here.

If it does have enough free space then, can you just try transferring that particular photo to see if it transfers correctly on its own? Maybe something got corrupted with that file so transferring it on its own will be a useful test.

Another thing to do is to try to delete the app from your device and then install it again to make sure that all temporary files are removed and you have a fresh install (don't worry you will not be charged for the app again).

Let me know how things go after you try these things. And thanks for the feedback regarding the transfer limit, we will take a look at that.

Kind regards,

Enrique
Photo Transfer App
Hi Enrique...I forgot to mention in my original post that I was going to try all your suggestions. :)

More background:
-All are JPG files that the iPhone 4S originally took. Many are HDR pix.
-using Firefox 9.0.1
-Using Windows XP SP3
-iPhone is 64GB and 58GB free. :)

1)If I try to upload a few files before/after and including the file I believe is dying, it still fails.

2)I deleted a bunch of the files that I believe are the bad ones (I don't need them anyway), and then the app dies again on the 34th picture...nowhere "near" the "bad" pix. Hope that makes sense.

3)When using your app, if I sort the file browser by Date and choose the same files (img_1703 - img_1800 which only totals 79 pix for me) it fails on the 49th picture.

4)Uninstalling/reinstalling does not help. I did not, however, reboot the iPhone between the uninstall and reinstall.

5)Uninstalled, rebooted iPhone, installed again...

6)Tried on IE 7.0.x and fails on the 34th picture as well (img_1703 - img_1800 which only totals 79 pix for me)

Do you have any way to enable logging on your app? In the iPhone itself, General>About>Diagnostics & Data> I see tons of Transfer_2012-02-24 crash files but there is no way to export them...I can highlight and copy...where should I email it to? I just sent it to your email support address that is listed in the web interface app homepage.
Hi Fred,

Thanks for your post and information, I'm sorry again you are having this issue with the app. There is a way for you to send me the crash logs of the app so I can take a look in more detail. You can go to this link and follow the instructions there, then send me the crash files related to our app and I'll try to figure out what's going on:

http://aplus.rs/apple/how-to-find-cra...

You can send us those files to our support email address: support [at] phototransferapp [dot] com. Let me know if you have any trouble extracting the files.

Kind regards,

Enrique
I just followed those directions and emailed you again.

Thanks!
