Thanks for posting your question. Unfortunately renaming albums or placing photos in a different albums in the 'Photos' app is currently not possible. We would really love to be able to fix this, even for our own use. However, with the current version of the iPhone/iPad SDK is not possible.
'Almighty' Apple does not provide an way for developers to rename or create new albums :( We are limited with the access that Apple gives developers to the iPhone/iPad photos and it is currently very restricted. We will explore the iPad SDK 4.0 as soon as is out and we hope the new SDK will allow us to work with albums.
In the meantime we are exploring the possibility of creating a new iPad app that will be able to transfer photos the same way as Photo Transfer currently does but we are going to keep the photos inside of the app so you can create albums and organize your pictures. We would still need some weeks for this but if Apple does not provide this functionality soon we may just create it on our own.
I hope this is an understandable answer. I'm sorry I didn't have better news. Hopefully Apple will give some more freedom to developers soon.
I'm sorry for not responding earlier. Unfortunately Apple has not added any programming interfaces to allow the creating or ordering of photos. They release iOS 4 for iPad in November but they still do not allow to arrange photos on folders or albums from a third party application like ours.
We decided to keep our app focused on transferring photos from the native 'Photos' app despite the limitations. However, there are other apps that keep the photos inside of their own space which many people don't like because they can access them from other applications (like photo editing apps).
I'm sorry I didn't have a better answer. We've submitted a feature request to Apple to allow photo album management capabilities from a third party app but so far they haven't released this.
Let us know if you have any other question or comment. I will be glad to hear any comments and feedback.
I'm sorry about this, as I mentioned on previous comments we rely on the programming interfaces provided by Apple and so far they haven't allowed developers to create albums or organize photos in any way.
We decided to keep our app focused on transferring photos directly from and to the native 'Photos' app despite this limitations, but as mentioned before there are other third party apps that allow you to organize photos inside of their app (not the native 'Photos' app).
I'll post something here if anything changes. Hopefully with the release of the new iPad hardware in couple of months there will be a change with this.
Unfortunately not, I wish Apple had changed something related to album management on iOS 4.3 but they didn't which is bad news for us. Now we will have to wait for iOS 5 to see if they add some programming interfaces to organize and manage albums. Kind regards.
I'm transferring from a PC to an iP4S. Ok it's been another four months. When I go to the download page, it shows "save to album" (which is empty) and "create new album." So - I "submit query" on an album I name. Is that supposed to create a new album on my iP4S? or what? Because it doesn't.
Secondly - what if photos I'm downloading have the same file name as [different] photos on my iPhone? ...does it just overwrite them? ...ignore them?
Frankly, the instructions with this app leave a lot to be desired. To have to come to a forum to find info on features showing up at the iP address is pretty stupid, don't you think - it's what you expect from free apps. To have the help screen just walk you throught he very obvious steps of transferring is exceedingly lazy on your part.
Moreover - if these are limitations of the program, you should let people know that before they purchase.
If the albums drop down is showing empty then please check that you have location services enabled for our app. That's required by Apple to be able to access albums and photos on your device since your photos may be geo-located. More info about this on this post:
Regarding the second question, when you transfer the same photos from PC to iPhone they don't get overwritten, they get saved at the end of the camera roll. Apple does not provide a programming interface that would allow to replace or overwrite any photo on your device.
I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other question or comment. I will be glad to help you.
I would like to clarify the information on this post. As of iOS 5.0 and Photo Transfer App v3.0 you can create new albums on your iPhone and iPad. This is no longer a restriction! So, please make sure that you have iOS 5.0 or greater installed on your device and please update to the latest version of our app to be able to create new albums and transfer photos to them.
I hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other question or comment. We will be glad to assist you.
While I see that in the upload webpage there is the option to create and upload to an album, I notice that this feature does not actually work. The 'save to' dropdown box is constantly empty, and if I try to create an album nothing happens.
