How to retain manually sorted sort order when transfer from iPad to Windows?

Martin Wolstencroft 11 years ago 2
How do I keep the manual sort order for photos that I have created on the iPad when I copy the folder to the PC using the app? I.e. I spent part of my holiday travel time sorting the good photos into a folder and putting them in a sensible order. So. Because we use multiple cameras as a family, but collect all the pics together.. On the iPad neither the filenames for the photos nor the dates will dictate the sort order. Only my manual re-arrangement within the folder on the iPad has the correct sort order. How do I keep this sort order???
Hi Amber,
Sadly this does not fully cover the circumstances of the problem. I want to override both the date and the filename sorting! - the ipad can do it locally, but the info is dropped (even if your app claims to keep all the data) when the pics are transferred.

To be explicit - I need to keep the sort order created on the ipad after the photos have landed on the Windows PC.

If I use the photos app on the ipad to modify the order of the photos, then the ipad remembers that new sequence :-). (basically it is an edit where I drag the pics around).

But when i export the photos, they just turn up in time/name order :-(. I want to keep the manually created sequence of the photos. Without this facility, all the work i do on the ipad is a waste of time. :-(

I would be happy to do some sort of clever bulk rename if required (perhaps the photos get renamed during the transfer out of the folder i have created and sorted on the ipad), but I just need to keep the manually created sort order.

best regards
Martin
Hello Martin,

Thank you for contacting us! I am sorry you are having issues with the app.

If you are on iOS7 then if you transfer a photo that say you took in February 2013 (regardless of the name) then the photo will appear in the right place under the 'Photos' tab (Moments/Collections/Years) when you drill down to February, however, it will appear as the LAST photo in the Camera Roll because the Camera roll is sorted on the order the photos were saved not on the date the photo was taken. It's important to make sure that your photos weren't modified with other apps or programs because that will remove the EXIF headers which will cause you to loose the date and information for the photos.

Did you happen to modify those photos in any other app or any other source that might have changed the "exif" data? I would like to suggest that you please try this:

1) Open Photo Transfer App on your iDevice
2) Go to 'Send' > 'Device' > 'Select photos & videos'
3) Find the photo you transferred and then long press over it. This should bring the photo in full screen. Then press on the 'info' button on the top right corner.
4) Check that the date of the photo is correct.

The photo metadata should be preserved. On the 'Photos' tab they are organized by time so the photos will be arranged according to the 'exif' date which should correspond to the date the photo was taken.

Also there is a related topic to this as well: https://getsatisfaction.com/photo_tra...

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have other questions.

Best,
Amber
