Transferring from 'device' to 'device seems to work but doesn't

Dave Draper 14 years ago updated 14 years ago 5
I am trying to transfer some photos from an iPhone 3 to the new iPhone 4. Following directions everything seems to work and I get the 'two photos transferred successfully'. When I go to view them it shows a white page with a grayed picture of a camera and 'JPG' showing underneath it.

Any suggestions?
Hello Dave,

Thanks for posting your question here. That's an strange issue. Did you have any photos stored on your iPhone 4 already? Were the photos saved to the 'Camera roll' album?

I would recommend you to delete those two photos and try the transfer again. It is possible that there was a connection interruption during the transfer and the photos were not copied correctly. Another possibility is that the photo catalog was not up to date on the iPhone 4 causing this problem.

Let me know how it goes after you delete those photos and try transferring new ones.

Bes regards,

Enrique
Photo Transfer App
I deleted the app from both iPhones and re-installed them and it still did the same thing. Just now I tried choosing two photos that was actually taken by the iPhone 3 and it worked. If I try to transfer two photos that were actually saved to the camera roll from an e-mail that was retrieved from the iPhone 3 it does NOT work. Let me know if that is too confusing an explanation.
Hello,
Thanks for your message. Ok, that explains somehow the issue. Did you recently updated your iPhone (the sender) to iOS4? it looks like some iPhones are having this strange issue with the photos in the photo library after upgrading to iOS4.

Try to email to yourself the same photos that you tried to transfer unsuccessfully. The people who have contacted us with a similiar problem as you have reported that they can't email photos from their photo library either which means that somehow the data of their Photo Library photos is missing or corrupted (which is totally unrelated to our application) after the iOS4 upgrade.

Here is a discussion about this issue on our support forum:

Please let me know your results after you try to email those photos to yourself and please tell me if you just updated to iOS4.

Kind regards,

Enrique
Photo Transfer App
No, I purchased the new iPhone 4 cell phone and gave my wife the iPhone 3. There was no upgrade. Yes, I can save e-mail photos to the camera roll just fine.
Thanks for the info. So, I understand that you can save email photos to the camera roll but did you try to email a photo from an album outside the camera roll to yourself? What I would like to check is that the 'Mail' application can read the photos outside the camera roll. Basically, you need to open the 'Photos' app, navigate to an album outside the camera roll and use the 'Share' button (the one with a little arrow) to email yourself a photo. Please let me know if the photo arrives ok.

I look forward to your results.
