"WARNING! downloaded from internet are you sure you want to open: YES/NO" for every single picture transferred makes program almost useless!?

Transferred photos to MAC all must be opened one at time to approve OSx warning of "downloaded from internet are you sure you want to open: YES/NO." Otherwise they CANNOT BE ADDED into iPhoto or viewed by a number of other programs until you say yes to EACH. THIS MAKES PROGRAM UNUSABLE unless there is a way to "batch" approve them all and release that "safety lock" from the transferred pictures? Is there???? I LOVE everything else about this though!
My dear Enrique!

Many thanks indeed for your care!

I read that article carefully now and it has two options.

1. disable all warnings for downloaded files
2. select a folder and disable warnings for its contents EVERY TIME you add more to it.

But both seem kinda bad, don't they? Did I read it wrong? Seems you cannot create a special download folder and make everything you put in that one folder always "safe" to open like you thought? You must go through a lot of stuff EVERY time?

Enrique-

I'm having the same problem. Running 10.7.2; using Safari. As a test, I sent 14 photos from my iPhone to my computer. They appeared in a folder called "photos". I tried dragging the whole album to iPhoto, but that wouldn't work. Then highlighted all 14 photos and tried to drag and received the error message re" warning: this was downloaded, etc. etc." I said OK...and then it only moved in one of the 14 photos even though all were selected. Went back and tried again. This time, asked me about duplicates and I clicked don't import. Then, got error message re: warning. Said yes....and it downloaded only second picture.

Then, tried moving photos to desktop and moving into iPhoto from there. Each photo is "locked" so I have to go into each one and Save as and unlock.

I can't do this hundreds of times. Love your app...but need to be able to move photos en masse....

Hi Kim,

Thanks for your comment. Please try this:

"When you extract the contents of the zip file you could select all the files and then double click on them, then you will be prompted to accept to open them and then they will be open on 'Preview'. After this you should be able to use the files with no problems. You should be able to drag and drop them to iPhoto or to any other program."

Let me know when you have a chance to try this out.

Cheers,

Enrique
Hi Mike,

You are right, I originally though that it would disable the warning permanently for that folder but as you noted it would only do it for the files already on that folder :(

Now, did you test selecting all photos and then double-clicking on them? That should prompt the warning but only once. Then, your photos should be open with the Preview app so you can see them. After that you should be able to drag and drop them to any software on your computer.

Let me know when you have a chance to try that.

Greetings,

Enrique
Enrique!

I did what you suggested and indeed that worked! THANKS!!

Suggestion: I know videos must be transferred one at time. I know you have a good reason for it. BUT this forces me to go back to the "wire" and Image Capture :-(. Some day, perhaps, you will let us transfer all those massive files wifi through your excellent and extremely easy to use app.

Many thanks though, problem solved! POST THIS DIRECTION for apple users as I am sure I am not alone :-)

Cheers,

Mike
Dear Mike,

Thanks for contacting us. That's strange, you should not be getting that warning for the images downloaded from your device. Are you downloading the files individually or as a zip file? If you download them as a zip file and then extract the contents of the zip file that should allow you to move the JPG files without the warning.

Also, what web browser are you using? You should not get this warning when using Safari on your mac.

If the problem persists you can also disable that warning for a particular folder on your mac using a terminal command. Here is some info about it:

Let us know if you continue having issues. We will be happy to help.

Best regards,

Thanks for such a fast and clear response, Enrique!

LOVE your program! SO far superior to Apple's procedures to do same or any competitor I researched!

BUT!!!!!!!

I AM using Macbook Air Lion 10.7.2. I transfer as zip in full resolution to desktop. I unzip. Then to open ANY of them I get the warning. If I move them to other folders then try to add them to iPhoto, it just ignores/skips/doesn't-see ALL the pictures I transferred with your program :-( so I have to remember which were transferred, click on each one to "allow to open" and well you can imagine that's makes the program unusable for me!.

I will now try your disable idea and let you know BUT if there is a way to make it do this without having to remember this every time I use your program that would be a great benefit obviously :-)

Please let me know what you think of this added detail?

THANKS!!

Mike
Hi Mike,

Just wanted to check with you if you had a chance to read the link that I sent you on my previous post. It looks like you can avoid that prompt by executing this command on the terminal:

xattr -d -r com.apple.quarantine ~/Downloads/

I would suggest to create a new folder inside of your Downloads folder called 'Photo downloads' or something similar and then you can apply the command above to that particular folder instead of the whole Downloads folder.

Another solution is this. When you extract the contents of the zip file you could select all the files and then double click on them, then you will be prompted to accept to open them and then they will be open on 'Preview'. After this you should be able to use the files with no problems.

I hope this makes some sense. Let me know if you need further assistance.

Kind regards,

Enrique
