Crashing on iPad 2 when transferring.

Daniel Gray 13 years ago 8
I'm seriously frustrated and annoyed. I am attempting to transfer .mov files from PC or Mac to iPad... Everything seems fine... the file is transferring.... and then right at the death, the app seems to crash and then no file is available on the iPad. I've tried all your support steps so far... everything is running on the same network, and as I said, all seems OK until the final hurdle. Any advice please ?
Did the fix work, Daniel? I'm experiencing exactly the same problem as you've described (all apps and iOS up-to-date)

Jon
Hi Jon,
The issue is solved but the update is still not approved by Apple. We've been waiting to hear from them for a few days but haven't yet. I will post something here as soon as the update that solves this issue is resolved. Sorry again for the delay and thanks for your patience.

Best,
Enrique
Hi Daniel,

Thanks for posting your question here. What version of our app are you running? Please make sure that you update the app to Version 3.0 using the 'App Store' app on your device. After updating please try the transfer again and let us know if you have any other problem.

Kind regards,

Enrique
Photo Transfer App
I am running the latest version of the app as I only bought it yesterday. I have tried re-installing the app. So to summarise.

Sending from... Both Windows 7 and IOS Lion
To... iPad2 with IOS5

Photos transfer flawlessly to Camera Roll
.Mov crashes app.

The process starts and shows full progress on computer. Once it reaches 100%... then the app show as receiving the file for a couple of seconds and then I get a black screen and it sends me back to the main screen on the iPad.

Any further suggestions ?
Hi Daniel,

I'm sorry you are still having problems. Can you please tell us what type of video are you trying to transfer? Was it taken with an iPhone? or with a digital camera? If you could send us a sample to info [at] phototransferapp [dot] com that would be useful for us to investigate futher.

Here is another thing you can try:

1. Open the 'Settings' app on your device and scroll down until you find our app ('Transfer')

2. Change the switch for 'Use old saving APIs' to ON and close the settings app.

Doing this will tell our application to use the old programming interfaces provided by Apple to save your photos. It looks like the new programming interface provided in the last SDK is having some problems with certain photos/videos. I hope that will fix the problem you are having. Let me know when you have a chance to try this out.

Best,

Enrique
Photo Transfer App
Tried changing the settings... no change.

The .mov file was taken on an iPhone4... transferred to mac... and then I've tried to move these to the iPad.

I have also tried an mkv file and an MP4 file... this shows as being successful... yet the image doesn't appear in the photos folder. This has been attempted to the camera roll and also a new folder (note: there is no problem creating a new folder)

I have also tried sending items to the iPhone from the mac too... with the same results. Also... with the MKV file I get a grey square with 'jpg' written in it... this is sat in the photos app... despite it being a movie.

So... I have tried sending a .mov file taken on the iPhone4... back to the phone on which it was filmed... no joy at all.

Initially... I was thinking this could be network related... however... there has to be network communication considering this allows me to send photos and create folders on the remote devices.

I will send a small movie file to you tomorrow to see if you can figure this out.

Thanks,
Hi Daniel,

I've been researching this issue and I just discovered a bug with the video upload function that is causing a issue with some video uploads causing the problem that you are experiencing. We already fixed it and we will be publishing an update to the app store very soon. Apple takes a few days to approve an update so we expect the update with this fix to be available at the beginning of next week. I apologize sincerely for this issue. Thanks for your patience!

If you want I can send you a pre-release version for you to test and make sure the issue is resolved with your videos. Send us an email to: info [at] phototransferapp [dot] com and I will send you instructions on how to do this.

Best regards,

Enrique

Thank you Enrique... I'll wait for the update to arrive. As long as I know it has been addressed and I won't be wasting my money on an app that doesn't work, I am happy enough.

Have to say... your support is first class.

Thank You.
