lost creation date

S Clabaugh 10 years ago updated 9 years ago 4
When I transfer photos from my iPhone 5 to Dropbox, they lose their original creation date. Instead they show the transfer date. How do I get them to retain the creation date? This is often a critical factor for photos I take at work.
Hello!

Thank you for posting your question here with us, I will be happy to assist you! Our app doesn't modify your photos or videos when transferring and it should retain the original metadata. If you open the photos in another program say on your computer, is the 'creation' date the transfer date?

Please let me know the above! I'm also contacting the development team for confirmation on this issue.

Any update on this? I'd also like files uploaded to Dropbox to retain their original creation date.
The creation and modification dates for the files in the Finder and other programs like Preview show the date they were transferred to Dropbox with your app. The photos' exif metadata appears correct, but the Finder doesn't support this.

Thanks for looking into this!
Hello!

Sorry for the delay in responding back to you on this! Unfortunately that is due to how Dropbox stores the files and not to our app. The file creation date is not something we can control on Dropbox, however the metadata inside of the photos still stores the right creation date, it is just the file creation date that Dropbox assigns when the file is uploaded.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Best,
