Can't Play Video Files

Peter Sorrell 13 years ago updated 13 years ago 6
When I transfer a video (mov) file from my PC to my iPad2, the file simply appears as a block with the word JPG on it and will not play.
The same file will play OK if sync'ed to the Videos folder using iTunes.
I understand that another app called "PhotoSync" does work correctly with video files, but I've already paid for "PhotoTransfer" and expect it to work as advertised.
PLEASE HELP!
Hi Peter,

Thanks for contacting us, I will be more then happy to help you.

What version of the app are you using? We have published a fix that should've taken care of the issue you are seeing. On version 3.1 that error should be fixed now.

Please let me know if you are still having issues. Thanks!

Just a clarification to the previous answer, the latest version of the app is 3.01 and not 3.1. Let us know if you continue having issues.

I already have the latest version: 3.01, but it doesn't work with videos

Here is part of an email I received from Amber :
" ... We already published a fix for it and we are currently waiting on Apple to approve it ..."

Any ideas on when it will be approved and available?

Hi Peter,

As I mentioned earlier the update was released couple of weeks ago and it should fix the issue with the videos. What is the format of your video? Have you tried transferring the video again? Let me know.

Regards,

Enrique
Photo Transfer App
The video format is MOV:
Video:
Frame Width: 848
Frame Height: 480
Frame Rate: 25 frames / sec
Data rate: 1184kbps
Total Bit Rate: 1419kbps
Audio:
Bit Rate: 235kbps
Sample Rate: 48kbps

The original file was in VOB format, from a Mini-DVD camcorder. I converted it using AVS Video Editor. The file will play if sync'ed to the Videos folder with iTunes, but will not play if transferred to Saved Photos with your app.

If converted to an MP4 file, then it transferred correctly and played. However some other MP4s transfer and play, whilst others don't. It's all a bit hit and miss!

Are there any other characteristics the video files should have, in addition to the correct file extension?

Also there are variations between what the iPod Touch (3G, iOS 5.0.1) and the iPad2 will play. What are the criteria for each device?

A bit long-winded this time, but your response will be much appreciated.
Hi Peter,

Thanks for the info. The variations on the devices are related to the processor type of the device. The iPad 2 has a dual core processor that is able to play higher resolution videos (videos in Full HD) while the iTouch has a less capable processor that limits the types of videos it can play. I would recommend you to try this tool to convert videos to the iPad/iTouch formats:

http://handbrake.fr/

It's free and I've used it successfully before to convert videos coming from other sources. I hope this helps! Also, if you could send us a sample original video (short video, maybe 3 or 4 seconds long_ to our support inbox that would help us figuring out a better way to process that type of video format. Our support email is support [at] phototransferapp [dot] com. Thanks!

Best regards,

Enrique
