more movie file formats to be added

patrol121 14 years ago updated 13 years ago 11
supports only two video formats .mov and .mp4
Why not .flv its smaller or .avi so that we can be able to
transfer downloaded movies !

That's all the rest is all great and easy to use
Thanks a lot
Hello,

Thanks for submitting your idea! We really appreciate your feedback. Unfortunately however, the iPad only accepts a few video formats. The FLV video format (Flash Video) belongs to Adobe and it can only be played using Flash Player which is not present on the iPad :(

The AVI format is a container format introduced by Microsoft and it can't be played by the iPad either. You can try converting an AVI video file to MOV format but I believe you wold require an separate software to do it (Maybe Quick Time can do this). Let us know if you need more information on how to convert from AVI to MOV and we can research that for you.

Sorry I didn't have better news. We are limited by the formats accepted by the iPad for now. Thanks again for your suggestion and please let us know if you have any other idea or comment!!

Kind regards,

Enrique
Photo Transfer App
Try the FREE converter called Handbrake.
It has iDevice presets and supports .m4v plus also supports 720p resolution.

See it at

http://handbrake.fr

It's for Windows and Mac, and some other platforms too.
Sorry ... I didn't realize you wanted to download a vid from the Internet, onto the iDevice then use the transfer App to bring it to the PC.

Yes, a nice function, but the developer may still be limited by the Apple developers package, to the files supported by the iDevice, so Apple is whom you should complain to.... They have a choke-hold on the iDevices and it's not fair to the consumer, nor to the developer.
Thanks a lot I really appreciate your response
You are right I know there are a lot of video converters software
I can use any of them the idea was to let this transfer app be more
supportive to work with all kind of format files .

Microsoft let all apple products work properly why not the other way around
I mean adding more formats would be much easier than convert each and
every file I would like to send it to iphone right !

Thanks a lot
I'm confused. You say that the app supports MP4, but when I try copy from my PC to my iPad2, it says videos must be MOV or M4V. Am I missing something?

iMovie for iPad will only recognize MP4 files.
and if I rename the MP4 file to M4V it copies, but I get an error on my iPad that says it's not compatible. So basically this app doesn't copy videos to iPad. A waste of time and of 3 bucks.
Hello. To free up some space on my iPhone 4 I transferred some videos to my PC. They all seemed to get converted to divx. I later wanted them back on the iPhone and was told they were now in an unsupported format. I've converted them to QuickTime. The strange thing now is that some will be accepted by the phone but I'm told the others are still incompatible. Any ideas

Thanks, Richard
Hi Richard,
Thanks for your comment. Did you take those videos with your iPhone 4 originally? They should normally be on MOV format when you transfer them to your computer. You should not need to convert them to QuickTime if they are already in MOV format. One thing that I would suggest is to make sure that you launch the 'Photos' app before you start a transfer with our app. Sometimes the photo database needs to be refreshed before the start of the transfer to avoid the compatibility problem. Also, if you keep having issues try to transfer your videos 1 at a time to see if that helps. I hope this is useful!

Enrique
Hello, Thanks for posting your comment here. The iPad supports only a few video codecs so it is likely that the video that you are trying to upload was created using a codec that the iPad can't recognize. What is the source of the video that you are trying to upload? One thing you may want to try is to first convert the video to M4V using a tool like 'Handbrake" (http://handbrake.fr/) and then try to transfer the video again. I hope this helps!

Best,

Enrique
Photo Transfer App
I'm trying to transfer videos I took on my iPhone to iPad and even after following all the instructions it gives me an error message saying the file type is not supported on my iPad??? So it won't transfer them.
Hello,

I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with the app. Are you trying to transfer from iPhone 4S to an iPad 2? If that's the case please make sure that your iPad 2 is running iOS5 otherwise it will not be able to play videos coming from the iPhone 4S.

Also, make sure that you have the latest version of Photo Transfer App installed on both devices (v3.01).

Let us know if you need more help. We will be glad to assist you!

Enrique
