"Downloading from iCloud" - backup got hung on an image with this note

I've tried 4-5 times now to get the (upgraded) app and windows desktop utility to back up photos off of my iphone (ios 14.2 iphone 8). I tried a few times via wifi then moved to USB which seemed to be going much better. However, it got hung up on an image and there was a note "Downloading from iCloud" there. I checked my firewall and didn't see any live transfer going on, just wondering what it might have been doing at that time. Is there a recommended way to avoid this?

Hi,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry you are having issues with the app. It sounds like a bug, do you know the file size of that image?

We are conscious the Windows app is not working perfectly and I would like to tell you we are in the process of rewriting the app. We expect to release it during the second quarter of 2021. In the meantime, if you have your photos on iCloud, you can download them directly from https://www.icloud.com/
