Can an update allow the zipped file of photos to be e-mailed, not just transfer to iDevice?

Hi, I like the way the App zips all the photos into a neat little file, when selecting multi-photos for transfer, but would also like to have the option for e-mailing the zipped file to someone.

I know it's mainly to transfer to an iDevice or another computer, and can be sent or used from the PC it's sent to, but, just to make it easier, and have another option, being able to e-mail it wirelessly too, in its neat little zip file, would be very nice.

Is this a good idea for the future planned update?
Hello!

That's a nice idea! Thank you. There are people who have asked us about being able to send photos to another person who may not be close by and this would allow them to send multiple photos at once. The only issue would be the size of the zip file, there are some email providers that will reject any email over 10MB in size. If you include more than 10 photos then the file will be big and the email may get rejected.

We will think about this and see how we can go around this limitation. Maybe only allowing 'medium resolution' photos to be sent over email could work. We have couple of other ideas about sending photos to a person who is far (not in the same network) but we are still validating them.

For now, we need to digest all the new announcements that Apple made today for iOS5. There are a ton of changes and we need to see how they will impact our app and the new releases that we were planning.

Thanks again for all your nice suggestions and for your answers in the forum!! :)

All the best,

Enrique
Photo Transfer App
Hi Enrique,
WOW...iOS 5 ... I can hardly wait :). Any time frame for the iOS release?
Did they include background Multi-tasking in it? :)
Unless they swore you to secrecy about it, please tell the new features soon. :)

Anyway, about the Multi-transfer photo zipped file, being too big to send, ...
How about creating an option to make split zip files, the way WinRAR does it.
If the total size is too big, it has an option to split the large file into smaller sized ones and then combines the files when all are uncompressed again.

For example ... Photo.zip ... Photo.zip.01 ... Photo.zip.02 ... etc... :)

So, clicking on the main first file will look for and open the next, then the next... etc... Until all original files are uncompressed, as they originally were.

I'd rather not have ONLY mediumRES as an option. But, with iOS 5 ... Knowing Apple, they may have gone backwards, making more restrictions ... :(

If not, a temp folder can be created in the iDevice for the zip splitting.

Oh well, I'm sure you'll figure something out. You always do! :-)

ooOooooOOo just another thought, please also add audio file transfer support.
Not for just what's made within the iDevice, but to also "import" audio files from a PC or other device as well... If possible. :) like an MP3 recorder... Or other type of non-apple file., again ... if possible , given Apple restrictions!

Bye.
Hi there! Sorry for not responding to this earlier. In theory there is an NDA between iPhone developers and Apple for Beta software but I think all the new features on iOS5 are already very public :)

What I can say is that there are a some new exciting API's regarding photo management that will hopefully make the app much better and flexible. We are also integrating a few other things to make the app more powerful. I think they are going to release iOS5 in the fall according to the keynote so there is time to integrate and improve the app for the release of the new OS.

Regarding music, I've thought about it but messing with MP3 is always a bit "tricky" because of copyrights so I'm not sure I want to get into that business even if the use case is very necessary and legitimate. Also, with the announcement of iCloud it seems that there will be a much better way to do that natively.

Cheers!

Enrique
Hi, helping with answers here has become a hobby of mine :-) and I also enjoy answering people's questions when I know the answer.

Regarding the audio files, ... Is it still a copyright issue if you're just transferring the file? I can see if you try to play the MP3 file, or .WAV ... etc... But moving the file may be different, and can also help when using another App, like an audio editor, to bring the file into, or out of, the iPad.

I'd also like to see the Photo Transfer App be able to bring files of any type, or even entire folders, into areas the user chooses to place them.

For example, I'm "playing" with a medical App, called "Mobile MIM", and I have MRI files I'd like transferred to its main download area, without using BlueTooth, or WiFi.

A transfer App, like yours, could make things like this much easier, not just for editing Apps using sound files.

I'm sure Apple may limit you regarding this, but if your App could search the folders, or tell what App uses what folder, and ask to transfer to it, it would help a lot.

Oh well, ... just an idea... :-)
